    Hasan Zeybek

    (Painting, Identity Problems, Installation Art)

After completing his undergraduate and post-graduate studies (both abroad) on art, young artist returned to the island wishing to benefit the country with his artworks. Starting to educate other individuals to become artists, Zeybek has on-canvas oil painting/acrylic art practices as well as installation artwork trials which are not in the form of traditional understanding. Zeybek generally addresses Mesarya Plain, his homeland, both in his installation work and paintings. The compositions created by Zeybek are formed with shades of brown and different tones of red which reflect the geographical features of his homeland. The political state of Cyprus and its effects on Cypriot artists are both the subjects of Zeybek's artworks especially with respect to issues of identity and belonging. Identity problems that should be questioned by all people living on the island are reflected in Zeybek's work as portraits of people with unclear faces or human figures with unclear faces in different compositions. A series of figures standing in different positions looking as if they are stuck between heaven and hell are in the collection. In this point, the colors used by the artist play a vital role as the bright shades of red, black and blue are telling the story rather than the figures.
